Highbury to host anti-racism forum
Thierry Henry leads a host of stars in an anti-rascism drive.
Over 100 students from 10 secondary schools in London attended an anti-racism forum in Highbury on Tuesday and asked some questions to the leading figures from Arsenal Football Club and the anti-racism campaign, Kick It Out.
Arsenal's club captain Thierry Henry, star of Arsenal Ladies Anita Assante, Kick It Out's Lord Herman Ouseley and the popular musician M People's Shovel were the contestants answering schoolchildren's questions and concerns about the issue.
This event is annually held by Arsenal and this year it was on the last day of the 12 days of activity coordinated by the organization. It was the last anti-racism forum at Highbury before the Club's move to Emirates Stadium next year.
The Week of Action has gained its placed in the sporting and community calendar and campaigns for equality in the game. Timing of the event was so correct that it coincided with Black History Month, which is the celebration of African and Caribbean history.
In the beginning speech of the panel, Henry said "As the captain of a multi-cultural football club, I am completely in favour of this initiative and I am very happy to be part of this panel."
"Following the advances in football, a fight against racism has started but there is much to be done. I try to spread this message all over the world by means of my anti-racism campaign, Stand Up, Speak Up and as a FIFA anti-racism ambassador. It is promising to have such panels, that show how huge differences can be made."
