The England Job
At one time the England Job was seen as a stressful affair, now it really is a ‘shagtastic’ job with benefits!!!!

Luiz Felipe Scolari is reported to have just been submited to the Football Association's informal interview process.

Scolari, believed to be the only non-European in the running for the job, is the most successful current international manager. He is also known to be Kingmaker vice-chairman David Dein’s candidate of choice.

In London to attend a conference for the Institute of Directors, the 57-year-old reportedly met the FA's chief executive Brian Barwick last week.

Scolari impressed when winning the World Cup with his home country in 2002, defeating England 2-1 in Shizuoka on the way in a game in which Brazil recovered from a half-time deficit.

Scolari then repeated the feat with Portugal in the Euro 2004 quarter-final two years later, winning on penalties following a match in which Michael Owen again had given England a half-time lead.

Scolari's contract with Portugal expires in the summer, making him an attractive candidate for the FA. Unlike Alan Curbishley, Sam Allardyce, Steve McClaren, Stuart Pearce, Guus Hiddink, Gérard Houllier and Fabio Capello the governing body would therefore not have to pay employers' compensation for his services.

That is also true for Martin O'Neill. However, the former Celtic and Leicester manager is understood to be attracted by the vacant manager's position at Newcastle and may withdraw from the process if an official approach arrives from St James' Park.

Who ever gets the England job will hope to enjoy the fringe benefits that Sven has enjoyed, interviews for England Secretary should be interesting.
