Overview of the opponents in Champions League
Let's see how Arsenal's three opponents in the Champions League faired in the recent matches.
Arsenal's three opponents in the Champions League Group Stage this season are Ajax, FC Thun and Sparta Praque.
Ajax lost 1-0 at rivalry with PSV Eindhoven and they are eight points behind the top now. This loss also continued the winless run of Ajax in Eindhoven in last 10 years. Ajax manager Blind said "After the early goal, we fought back in the first half and did the same in the second 45 but we were not accurate enough." after the match.
FC Thun booked their space in last 16 in Swiss Cup by dominating fifth-division team FC Perly-Certoux by 7-1. First half score was determined by the goals from Silvan Aegertar, Nelseon Ferreira(2) and Armand Deumi. In the second half, home team scored a goal but Thun's response came in the last 10 minutes of the match with three consecutive goals.Mauro Lustrinelli, Adriano Luis Spatado and Aegerter were the scorers.
Sparta Prague lost against their local rivals Slavia Prague 4-1, following the home defeat be Arsenal on last Tuesday. Sparta Prague took the lead early in the match with Miroslav Matusovic and gained a penalty, but Libor Dosek's shot was saved. At the half hour mark, Slavia pulled it back with Dusen Svento and in the second half three consecutive goals in six minutes settled the match. This was the worst defeat of Sparta since 1989. Stanislav Griga told the reporters that their main problem was in defence, not in attack after the match.
