Its a funny old game .
New Sunderland signing Dwight Yorke does not sound exactly happy to be heading up north.
Yorke, 34, joined the Black Cats last week after cash-strapped Sydney decided against offering him a new deal.
"I'm absolutely gutted to say the least, I'm devastated," the former Manchester United striker told the Sydney Daily Telegraph.
"Even if I got a call from someone at the last minute - then I think there and then that I would have stayed."
The Trinidad and Tobago international became new manager Roy Keane's first signing after agreeing a two-year deal with the Black Cats.
But Yorke, who captained Sydney to the inaugural A-League title this year and played at the recent World Cup in Germany, admitted it had been hard to leave his life in Australia.
"It's so sad that I've got to say goodbye to these guys, the backroom staff at Sydney FC, they have become personal friends," added Yorke, who has scored 189 goals with five clubs and 15 goals for the national team
"The fact is I was looking forward to leading Sydney and looking forward to defending the championship. I can't believe I'm leaving, I really can't believe it." ?
