Saints chairman under fire
A bad week for Rupert Lowe

This week Michael Wilde, a South Coast Business man bought 10% of Southampton Leisure Holdings plc from Saints director Paul Thompson.

The move puts further pressure on Chairman Rupert Lowe, but Wilde denies that this move has anything to do with the consortium trying to buy Southampton with the main aim of removing Lowe.

His spokesman said: "Wilde wishes to stress he is acting alone. He has no connection with Andrew Strode-Gibbons."

"He has purchased these shares as a long-standing fan of Southampton Football Club.

"He is a committed supporter and his interest is in the long-term success and future of the club. Any future plans will be with that objective in mind."

Meanwhile in another blow to Lowe, the Premier League decided not to charge Pompey after Southmapton alleged that their local rivals had made an illegal approach to Harry Redknapp last year.

a Premier League statement read: "The elements of this matter that fall under the jurisdiction of the Premier League are now considered closed."

Lowe has accepted the decision, probably feeling that he has bigger things to deal with.

Lowe's possible only consolation is the appalling position that Pompey and Redknapp find themselves in at the moment. However, with Brighton struggling both on and off the field, the biggest losers are the South Coast's football fans.
