Harrow academicals 0-1 Webworks
Toothless Lions fire blanks as hapless manager Gord0n is given backing of the bored.

With the inflammatory return of their manager, Gordon Montgomery, the Accies looked set to deliver an impressive performance. After an impressive debut last week goal hungry Chris Rock broke through the defense three times within minutes of the starting whistle. Charging through a flat defensive four Rock set himself up with a hatrick of one-on-one chances with the defending keeper. Sadly he’d left his shooting boots at home and the ball was scuffed each time into the relieved hands of the waiting keeper in the centre of the box. With the chance to bury the match early on the Accies struggled to gain control and the opposition took over. Taking control of the midfield they started stretching some heavy footed Harrow defenders (Amir, Jon, Warren and Miles) by looping the ball deep into the corners and then cutting in some sharp crosses to waiting attackers. The tactic paid off and in the 21st minute the defense was opened up and the opposition struck home a carefully planned move which left them on top 1-0. The Harrow morale was crushed and things started to get desperate. The midfield fell apart and ball chasing and long clearances became the order of the day to a dispirited side.
However, a half time talk by legendary manager Gordon put the hairs back on the chests of a seemingly singed Harrow squad. Resolute to push up and force some defensive errors the Accies came out guns blazing for the second half. Excellent pass-run manoeuvres on the left from chef Gao and aging geography teacher Andrew Haughton saw a succession of opportunities open up on the left flank. Primary child care specialist Mike pushed on and left Rock with extra chances to clinch a draw. However, it wasn’t the defense that beat Rock but a particularly annoying line judge. With the visionary qualities of a bat in a dark cave he flagged down numerous goal scoring runs. The Accies were denied repeatedly. Unperturbed the Harrow Trojans pushed on. One crucial moment in the match saw captain Gordon charging forward to shoot against the keeper. The ball soared over the line and the keeper pulled it back over the line. An equalizer for the Accies. Yet for some inexplicable reason the referee decided not to give the goal (was he paid before the game I ask myself?).It stayed at 1-0. Finally, in the dying minutes a swooping cross from Mike was nutted into the top left hand corner of the goal by Mr. Rock. Another goal, surely? But no. A tiny defender leapt up (a clear three feet in the air) and in turn headed it clear once more. Well done him, but still no goal. And that is how it ended. 1-0, an unlucky Harrow team put to the sword once more. Let’s hope things improve, for at the moment a strong Harrow team are struggling to clear themselves from bottom – a disappointing position for a team of such quality players. Let’s see what the New Year brings.
