Everton 1-2 West Ham
Everton receive a Hammer blow as West Ham continue to defy gravity……..

James Beattie gave Everton an early lead on nine minutes. But a clumsy own-goal by Everton skipper David Weir and a Bobby Zamora's second half tap-in sealed the win for the Hammers.

Everton had only lost one of their last six Premiership games and despite a scare after five minutes started much the better.

Beattie, a former England international, was on target when he made an intelligent run across the face of goal to get on the end of James McFadden's cross and glancing the ball past Roy Carroll.

West Ham were then gifted an equaliser in comical fashion as a Repka cross made it into the box and captain Weir sent the ball deftly own net.

Everton had a 30th-minute effort ruled out for offside.

West Ham really do play good passing football, which is some what of a surprise given the fact that they only just secured a play off place in the Championship last season.

Marlon Harewood was slowly getting himself into the game and his excellent cross almost resulted in another own goal as Joseph Yobo sent the ball flying skywards inside the six-yard box.

Everton finished the half strongly, with Marcus Bent's inswinging cross just inches away from finding the head of Leon Osman.

After the break though, Everton were second best as West Ham found their fluency in the final third.

Harewood was looking increasingly dangerous, and he went close twice in quick succession as West Ham dominated.

A misdirected cross almost embarrassed Wright at the near post, while his header from Hayden Mullins' cross was just off target.

It was no less than West Ham deserved then, when the in-form Zamora pounced on the loose ball to score the winner after Wright had saved Etherington's low shot.

Everton look closer to a Chamionship team than a Champions league team. David Moyes stated after the match

"I've got no complaints - West Ham were the better team in every department. I can't really fault our players but West Ham deserved the win.”

West Ham boss Alan Pardew stated …

"With no disrespect to Everton, we've come to Goodison Park and given them a footballing lesson."
