Everton 0-4 Bolton
Bolton show struggling Everton a master class in efficiency ..at Goodison Park.
Kevin Davies was lucky when his speculative first-half nod ended up in the net. But what followed was far from lucky, Boltons devastating burst of three goals in five minutes shows the real difference in quality in these two sides.
Stelios Giannakopoulos steered home from close range after 75 minutes and Gary Speed added a third from the spot after Nuno Valente climb all over Davies.
The Kojak look alike then scored a very good fourth with a very controlled effort
Everton restored midfield duo Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill to their starting line-up in a bid to recover from the midweek embarrassment to West Ham at Goodison Park.
The game started as you would expect with more determination and physical battling than quality and early exchanges where littered with fouls and stoppages.
The first goal was a scrappy as Kevin Davies's header looped over Everton keeper Richard Wright and just crossed the line despite James Beattie's desperate efforts to scramble the ball away.
Everton Heads were down.
The second-half started in equally Championship football fashion, with Arteta wasting a good opportunity for Everton when he curled a free-kick yards off target.
Everton were pressing, but showed little creativity and had yet to force a save out of Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.
Bolton made a substitution after 65 minutes, replacing Jay-Jay Okocha with Nicky Hunt, Jay-Jay was not best pleased.
Everton had the ball in the net in the 71st minute when James McFadden steered home David Weir's header, but the Scot had strayed marginally offside. It was not to be Evertons day.
Weir gifted possession to Bolton, and Stelios steered the ball past the advancing Wright.
A few minutes later Valente tried to piggy back Kevin Davies in the box, Speed stepped up and added Boltons third from the penalty spot, he took the longest run up on record and at the last second opened up his body and placed the ball into the corner, class finish from an Everton Fan.
The final Humiliation was added as Stelios quickly added a fourth.
Everton manager David Moyes said after the game:
"We have lost by four goals at home and it is very embarrassing for us. I don't feel very good after that."
Oddly Bolton have now scored more goals at Goodison this season, than Everton.
Christmas cheer may be lacking from Goodison, the only saving grace is that Sunderland and Birmingahm look far worse.
