Nigel Clough's side earn a valuable return ticket to Manchester

Sir Alex Ferguson used this match to rest some of his star players giving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a chance to start in the Manchester United side together with several of his younger team-mates.

Nigel Clough had told his players to enjoys themselves and that's exactly what they did, coming quickly out of the blocks and gaining the early advantage.

Afer 5 minutes Shaun Harrad had a go at the Man Utd goal only to see his shot go well over.

On 14 minutes Burton won a corner, which was duly met by Jon Shaw. His header was scrambled off the line by Phil Bardsley. Then 6 minutes later Harrad had another shot, this time volleying straight into the hands of Man Utd goalie Tim Howard.

Finally in the last 10 minutes of the half Man Utd actually enjoyed a bit of possession. But still Burton kept the pressure up as Darren Stride's header was cleared off the line once again by Bardsley.

In the second half Man Utd brought out the big guns - Christian Rondaldo and Wayne Rooney. This half saw Burton's hero honours go not to the strikers but to the goalie Saul Deeney.

Twice Deeney saved shots from Rooney, and in injury time he managed to clear Ritchie Jones' shot with his feet.

After the match Nigel Clough, who somehow resisted the chance to come on himself, said:"It was pretty even in the first half and we never feared the worst, although if United hit top form they would have put four or five past us. "The chairman will be ecstatic with a replay - it'll be great for the lads."

Will the player/manager be able to resist one more chance to play at Old Trafford in the replay - time to get out my old 'Cloughie walks on water' badge!
