Leeds United 3-0 Sheffield Wednesday
Yorkshire Derby goes the ‘Mighty Whites’ way. It was ‘Cresshell’ for Sheffield Wednesday as Cresswell, the former Owl smacked in a double to seal the win.

Leeds took control right from the kick off and pressed forward in style. They started with a few major changes, Kilgallon made way for Gregan, Hulse made way for Cresswell. Both sets of players had been in the first team and contributed to Leeds’ good spell over the Christmas period. Healy also lost his place even though he scored twice mid week. The Owls opted to keep the same team which had beaten Leister last week

Leeds managed to get 4 corners inside the first ten minutes putting as much pressure on Sheffield’s back four as possible. Sheffield looked like they were going to break down early on however, Nicky Weaver managed to pull of a decent save to keep Gregan out. With the play going one way it was surprising that Leeds hadn’t managed to convert possession into goals within the first 30 minutes. Derry missed a header from 8 yards. Cresswell’s running did manage to frustrate defenders but Blake could not capitalize.
Leeds lost their momentum and it looked as though the visitors could take the lead however Sullivan did his job keeping the ball out of the net.

The second half started much the same way as the first did with Leeds once again piling on the pressure. The Elland Road faithful, weren’t able to silence the Owl’s supporters until Kelly broke down the right and crossed it to Butler, the captain misdirected the header across the face of the goal. It seemed as though it was going to be another missed chance until Douglas hooked the ball over Weavers head and back onto the skipper (Butlers) head. Butler headed home into an empty net. The Wednesday fans were silenced. On the 82nd minute Gary Kelly produced another brilliant cross which was met by a diving header from Cresswell. To rub salt in the wound of Wednesday fans he put the game beyond doubt in the 92nd minute with a simple tap in. Cresswell’s family may be divided as half are Leeds fans, half are Wednesday fans, but he certainly stole the show.
Leeds still hold 3rd place, a win for the Blades made sure there is still a 12 point gap between 2nd and 3rd.

Comments : Ken Bates' return to football has had a dramatic effect on Leeds. It's doubtful that they will catch the top two teams but a playoff place seems assured.
