A disputed penalty from ex-RMI full back Guy Heffernan cruelly denied Andy Nelson's side from claiming all three points from this afternoon's game against Barrow at Hilton Park.

After Tuesday's shock home victory over high-flyers Nuneaton saw RMI climb out of the relegation zone, today's visitors Barrow were well within the sights of Andy Nelson's side, just three points clear of the Railwaymen despite being seemingly comfortable in mid-table.

On a sunny but cold winter's afternoon in front of 301 spectators at Hilton Park, it was RMI who made the brightest start, with a header from an Andy Roscoe corner somehow being cleared off the line by the Barrow goalkeeper with half of the ball already over the line.

RMI continued to put the Barrow defence under pressure but they lacked the killer touch to create any decent clear cut chances as the game descended in to a scrappy affair with both sides relying on their strikers to latch on to punts upfield, though as the first half wore on it was the visitors who played the better football as they look to create some goalscoring chances.

It was RMI who took the lead early in the second half, Chris Simm latching on to a through ball to put it in to the bottom corner and put RMI a goal in front.

That lead was quickly cut short though when a Barrow attacker received the ball in a seemingly offside position, only to be brought down in the box by young RMI centre half Liam Coyne. Ex-RMI and Blackpool full back Guy Heffernan stepped up and although RMI goalkeeper John Lamb got a fingertip to it, the ball hit the inside of the post and went in to the net, much to the relief of the large travelling support.

As was the case in the first half, RMI stepped up the pressure but despite plenty of huffing and puffing, they just couldn't create any clear-cut chances. The game ended with Barrow asking all the questions in their search for a winner but it wasn't to come and on reflection a draw was probably a fair result, with RMI more than happy in claiming a point to retain their unbeaten home record in 2006.
