Trimley vs Witnesham Wasps
Another Solid Win
Under 9s hit ten at Trimley
Rob Houghton, 22 January 2006 20:33
Another seaside town visit - slightly more inland but any illusion that this would offer greater shelter from the wind were swiftly dismissed with the sharp breeze across the fields. The Wasps were in good form, winning in the As by 5-1 and in the Bs by 5-2. Two games that were tougher than the scoreline suggests.
A Team game
The first half was an evenly matched tense affair. Within 2 minutes Sam had to come out quickly to make a brave save at the feet of the onrushing Trimley attacker. Ethan was moved to a central midfield position and was always in the fray, snapping at the heels of the Trimley midfield and spreading the ball neatly to our twin attacking midfielders of Joe and Ollie. Ace, celebrating his admission to the Ipswich elite academy (well done ACE!), darted and buzzed around the Trimley defence. Cam and Ben stood firm blocking the attacks and smothering the blows from the Trimley attacks. Ollie, the As leading goalscorer, broke the deadlock with a sweet well struck shot from the edge of the area which he buried into the bottom right hand corner of the goal.
The second half came and the Wasps stepped up the pressure. Ethan tackled - emerging through a crowd of players
as a victorious warrior and placed a pass to Oli who quickly converted to make it two. A bold move down the left hand side started by Ben with a crunching tackle, placed Ace in a dangerous area on the edge of the box. A strike of his boot and the ball whipped long and hard into the Trimley net - three to the Wasps. Cam and Joe were always in the thick of the battle down the right hand side and combined to move the ball neatly around the Trimley defence. A squabble in the box and Joe stepped in to make it four.
Trimley continued to attack; Ben and Cam were in fine form heading clear and producing well time tackles to keep them out. The fifth goal for the Wasps was sublime - a long left footed shot from Oli arcing through the air over the outreached hand of the Trimley goalie and dipping below the bar. Trimley responded immediately with "anything you can do we can do better" and hit a duplicate magnificent goal from 20 yards out that arced into the top left hand corner of our goal.
A good game, played in excellent spirit by both teams and closer than the scoreline suggests.
Goals: Ollie (3), Joe (1), Ace (1)
B Team game
The B team are firing on all cylinders at the moment. Goal machine Rhys was soon in action with a blocked header and Kieron stepped out of midfield with a fine low shot that skimmed into the corner of the goal to make it one up to the Wasps. Alex was busy as ever down the right hand side and within two minutes had flashed the ball wide with a shot and then made a inch perfect pass for Rhys to convert to make it two. Stan and Charlie continue to slide in the tackles and worked well with each other to provide a solid defence but Trimley broke through the rearguard defence to force Jim into a good one on one save from the Trimley attacker. Kieron was again playing well and flung in another shot to make it 3-0 to the Wasps. In an action packed first half, Trimley fought back and slotted the ball past Jim for a well deserved battling goal.
Harry was working well down the left and caused a stress fracture to the Trimley goal with a pounding shot that threatened to break it in half. The rebound struck a Trimley defender and went into the goal - officially an own goal but strongly influenced by Harrys shot. 4-1 to the Wasps and half time.
Second half came and Jack came on for Stan. He quickly got into the action with a fine pass to Rhys which went just wide. The game then settled into a lengthy midfield game of attrition. Charlie broke down a Trimley attack with a swift run across the pitch and a well time tackle. Jim made a great save and Jack caused an injury to the Trimley goalie with a thunderbolt hit. Harry continued to threaten the Trimley goal with well struck shots. Kieron broke the deadlock with a great pass from the left side that Rhys popped up to convert and make it 5-1. Trimley continued to pressurise the Wasps defence and made it 5-2 before the final whistle with a nice shot past the onrushing Jim.
Goals: Rhys (2), Kieron (2), og (1)
