DARENT RIVER FC U7A's
A Week Makes All The Difference
The team put in their performance of the season so far. After going to Long Lane last week confident of over turning a 5-1 defeat in November the coaching staff (Mark & Paul) were very disappointed to lose 7-1, however this week their confidence in the team was totally justified as the team turned the tables on the Tigers.
After conceding a few sloppy goals in the two previous matches against the Tigers the training this week concentrated on defence and this fully paid off.
With a juggle of the players positions, Lee Hutchins switched to goalkeeper (A position his dad and granddad both played) and Tommy Green became a midfielder. Little did the coaching team know what an inspired decision this would prove to be.
The match was played at a great pace with solid tackles flying in from both sides. Lee played well in goal keeping a very well deserved clean sheet while the three defenders for the River, Non-Stick, Ryan P and Kyle held firm.
The midfield of Jade (again working tirelessly), Dan (showing his range of ball skills), Tom C (commanding as ever), Brad (covering lots of ground) and Tommy Green (Surprising us all on pitch) broke up the Tigers play.
Our lone forward Myles again used his pace to unsettle the oppositions defence.
The first half failed to generate a goal despite chances for both sides. The deadlock was broken in the third quarter from a very unlikely source. A ball across the Tigers goal fell to Tommy Green who coolly blasted the ball home for his first goal for The River which sent the Rivers fans wild.
The fourth quarter saw The River double their lead with four minutes to go with Dan Kemp getting the final touch in a goal mouth scramble to secure a thoroughly deserved River 2-0 victory.
TEAM Lee H, Non-Stick©, Kyle C, Ryan P, Dan K, Tom C, Tom G, Jade T, Brad C, Myles F
GOALS Tom G, Dan K
