Thomas Wilson 0 - 5 Allerdene by Barry J. Hindmarch
Division 1 Allerdene have too much for depleted Wilson side.
In the Bob Curry Cup 2nd Round, local rivals Thomas Wilson of Gateshead & District Div 2 met their Div 1 neighbours, Allerdene, at The Moss Heaps Stadium. The Wilson were forced into several changes in the team with Rob Innes deemed unfit, top scorer Bazz Hindmarch reduced to a subs role due to suffering from a virus, and flying full back Sean Ward AWOL.
After an uneventful opening period, Allerdene took the lead when Trendy Dave Dixon's pass went astray and veteran striker Willie Moat pounced like an ageing leopard to score. Moat doubled the lead following a dubious penalty decision. A cross clearly hit Tony Hindmarch on the thigh, but he was deemed to have handled, and Moat scored the twice taken penalty. Hindmarch was then booked for a clumsy challenge on former team mate John Kelly on the edge of the box, and the quick free kick caught the Wilson unawares, the ball hitting the post but leaving an easy tap in for the Allerdene.
In the second half The Wilson rallied, and Rumney's cross should have been finished by Brett Hogan who could only head over the bar from six yards. The Allerdene made it four when a far post corner was headed in unopposed, then Moat completed his hat-trick, following in to score after Hanvey had parried a shot into his path. The Wilson had a chance of a late consolation when Steve Coates was up-ended in the box, but Hogan's penalty was saved by Aitken in the Allerdene goal, and so it finished 5-0 to the visitors.
