Duke of Albany 3 - 3 Thomas Wilson
A draw for the Wilson makes promotion more difficult
As the end of the season approaches, the tension builds at the top of the table. The Wilson went into this game knowing that three wins in their last three games would guarantee promotion, but The Duke had other ideas.
On a muddy, water-logged pitch there were few chances early on, but the deadlock was broken when The Wilson's Brett Hogan tried a delicate chip from outside the box which nestled in the top corner. The lead was doubled when Hindmarch flicked on a long ball, and Woody Rumney's angled drive from the left beat the keeper in the far corner. The Duke's luck seemed to be out when the centre half inexplicably lashed out at Steve Coates and was deservedly sent off. This spurred the home team on, and
they pulled one back just before half time when a header from a corner deflected off Rob Boyle and beat the advancing keeper.
In the second half Rumney's shooting boots seemed to desert him as he fluffed some good chances, before another set piece allowed the Duke to equalize, with a fine drive which went in off the post. As the game seemed to be drifting towards a stalemate, Hindmarch's strong run caused panic in the Duke back four and the ball broke to Trendy Dave Dixon who scored from close range with five minutes left on the clock. The Duke didn't give up and when Wilson keeper Hanvey upended a Duke striker, a penalty was inevitable and the kick was dispatched. A hard challenge by Hogan on The Duke keeper in stoppage time caused uproar with a 30 man brawl erupting, but despite the numbers involved it ended in nothing more than 'handbags'. Final score, Duke of Albany 3-3 Thomas Wilson.
