Newcastle 1- 0 Birmingham
Birmingham blue at Newcastle defeat……

A late goal from in form and still not 100% fit, Emre handed a largely undeserved win to the Jordies at St. James.

The result leaves blues with two weeks to ponder their season until their next Premiership game and constitutes their 5th consecutive defeat.

“ We have to keep believing…. “ Bruce, seems to be the party line but now a large percentage of the football community seem to think that Birmingham will be one of the three that fall to the Championship at the end of the season.

It could have been very different. Birmingham adopted a cautious approach to the game, employing Emile Heskey as a lone striker and playing five in midfield. The game plan seemed to work well as they cramped Newcastle’s new found fluidity in midfield.

Emre came close with a free kick on 18 minutes, and Newcastle could have had a penalty when the ball hit Matthew Upson’s arm. Birmingham to could have scored first, Jarosik had a number of chances including a shot from 45 yards which hit Givens left post.

In a second half of few chances Birmingham should have gained a point for their hard work, but Emre’s strike ended their hopes. Bruce threw on Forsell and Pandiani, but look destined to look back on this season as a season of bad luck. If luck does even itself out over the season, Birmingham could well win most of their remaining games….. if only that could be true.

Comments : Bluenose, I really feel for you. I feel really sorry for Maik Taylor, the goalie, who has played out of his socks the last few games, and without whom it could have been worse (on goal difference anyway!)
