Meet the missus
Gateshead Thomas Wilson 2 - 0 Washington New Tavern

Meet the Missus

Or should that be misses? A pretty rubbish game, in horrible conditions for the middle of August, but at least The Wilson finally got a pre-season win against, Washington's New Tavern (formerly Wetherspoons).

New signing Mark Petrie had the best early chance, but he lifted his shot over the keeper and over the bar when put clean through, then missed another shot following up a parried shot. Tofte in The Wilson goal had a few half chances to save, but it was The Wilson who eventually broke the deadlock, Jason Scott reacting first to toe-poke the ball home. The Wilson were also proud to have in their side the world's slowest teenager, Andy McSloy, but he did nothing interesting! Despite several corners, the home side never really troubled theTavern keeper, and when referee Tony Hansen Hindmarch in his fetching gold top blew for half time, the score was still 1-0.

The second half saw chance after chance missed, with Petrie again guilty, before Geordie Jackson blazed wide of an open goal. Brett Hogan, obviously impressed by his pals style, committed an almost identicle sin, slicing wide from 8 yards, which prompted calls for the ref to book him for crimes against football. Woody Rumney had missed a couple of chances before he broke through and sealed the win, despite calls for offside from the Taverns over-40s back four (40 stones, that is, not 40 years old!).

The subs and chances came thick and fast, and newly retired Bazz "The Legend" Hindmarch almost came on in his steel capped work boots to show the strikers how it should but done, then thought, sod it, and stayed wrapped up on the side line. Final score, Thomas Wilson 2 - 0 New Tavern.

Team: Tofte, Ward, Cash, McPhee, McHale, McSloy, Scott, Hogan, Burns, Pearson, Petrie

Subs (alll used): Coates, Zadeh, Hanvey, Jackson, Jamieson

Apparently Boyler didnt turn up because of the rain - he was scared, YES SCARED, it might thunder, and he doesn't like that. Brett Hogan even says he once ran off the pitch and went home during a Stormont Main game because it started to thunder. HA HA HA.
