WOODY AT THE DOUBLE
Wilson make hard work of it again!

BAY HORSE 1 - 2 THOMAS WILSON
Barry Hindmarch, 23 August 2006 09:09

Just like this fixture last season, The Wilson made hard work of a game which they should win at a canter. A blistering open five minutes saw Pat Burns hit the crosss bar, and Rumney and Hogan both have good chances which could have put us 4-0. Unfortunately, the long grass, small pitch and fast pace of the game saw it degenerate into a scrappy affair, and indeed the Bay Horse could have taken the lead when a long range chip beat Fat Stef Lewandowski in goal, but drifted wide.

By half time the Fat Lad in the Black, the illusive Steve Catchpole, had booked Burns and Bowman of The Wilson as well as a Horse player. A hand ball on the line resulted in a Horse red card, but Nanny Mcphee's poor penalty was saved by the buffalo in goal. Despite having superior possession, The Wilson's quality in the last third was lacking and it was goaless by half time.

A blast from Gaffa Minnikin during the break seemd to improve things, and McPhee's quick free kick from 35 yards hit the cross bar and Brett Hogan somehow put the rebound over the bar from half a yard!! TART! Then disaster as a curling shot from ten man Bay Horse beat Stef and put the home side in the lead! It looked like it was going to be one of those days, when Hogan's header hit the crossbar, but Woody Rumney was able to nod the rebound in to equalise. As The Wilson struggles to take control, a rash challenge from Durham FA's favourite Neil Bowman saw a second yellow card from Catchpole and it was ten-a-side. Beef-dip McS(ava)loy was brought on for the injured Coates in midfield hoping his pace would make a difference (!!). As the game seemed to be heading towards a draw Jason Scott was booked, but with ten minutes left Rumney was on hand at the back post to fire in the winner and the team briethed a collective sigh of relief. Four points from two games, but still not out of second gear.
