Gateshead & District Sunday League
Just Like Watching Brazil
Felling Leam Rangers were officially presented with there new green and yellow strips by sponsor Bryan Williams of Coastline Glass and instantly put in a Brazil like performance against lowly Blue Star. Yet it was Blue Star who made the more promising start against the lethargic visitors and it took some heroics from Felling keeper and skipper Dave Liddle to keep the scores level. With Blue Star pressing for the opener Felling caught them on a counter attack and Ray Oshin laid the ball into the path of Chris Liddle to make it 1-0 against the run of play. Felling with there tails up doubled there advantage soon after. A great flick on by Barry Boyd was anticipated by the lively Oshin who chipped the ball over the advancing keeper and into the net. Blue Star were shell shocked as Felling made it three minutes later after another great ball by Oshin found Boyd unmarked at the back post to nod into an empty net. Blue Star reorganised at half time but could not find a way past man of the match Shaun Thompson and new summer signing Nicolas Potter. Last seasons top scorer Chris Heron returned to league action after a spell on the sidelines and it did not take the hit man long to get back in the old routine with a neat finish from ten yards out to put the game beyond Blue Stars reach. Final score 4-0. Vigo won a five goal thriller against Stormont Main. Barry Longstaff hit two early goals for Vigo but the defecit was reduced on the stroke of half time. Jody Ingham restored Vigo's two goal lead and it was enough to seal all three points although Stormont did manage to pull back another goal minutes from the end.
In The Second Division League leaders Bird Inn visited Bay Horse and won 7-4 despite being 2-0 down early on. Bird Inn didn't really hit top form with four key players out with injury but managed to struggle to 5-4 up at the interval. In the second half Bay Horse were reduced to nine men for two cynical challenges on midfield playmaker Peter Bryson and Bird Inn pressed home there advantage with two further strikes. Goals from Stu McGuire 2, Peter Bryson, Paul Hardy, Anth Jones, Stu Ferguson and Jamie Sheriff ensure the Washington outfit stay top of the tree.
Elsewhere In Division One Allerdene ran out 5-1 winners at Holmeside. Fiddlers continued there good run with a 4-0 demolition of Barley Mow. Highwayman are still without a point as they suffered a 4-0 home reverse against Victoria and they are joined at the bottom by new boys Corporation Club who lost 5-2 against Dunston Social Club. Dunston Excelsior continue to lead the pack with a 4-1 win over Wessington.
In the second division Greencroft Social cemented there place just behind the leaders Bird Inn with a 3-1 win over Pelaw/ Tyne View climbed the table defeating Travellers Rest 3-2. Shakespeare defeated Leam Lane 5-2 and Kibblesworth won a 7 goal thriller away to Gloucester. Last Orders called time on Wardley Legion hitting 6 goals without reply and Pelton Fell edged a nine goal thriller against Steppes 5-4.
