Hogan and Dixon doubles Mow down Barley.

Thomas Wilson 4 - 3 Barley Mow.

In the Gateshead And District Sunday League the Bob Curry Cup took centre stage, and Second division Thomas Wilson kept their unbeaten start to the season going with a surprise win against First division Barley Mow. It was the Barley who made all the early running, with Paul Foster unlucky to see his shot saved by Fat Stefan Lewandowski (pictured) in The Wilson goal. On 20 minutes, however, it was The Wilson that took the lead with a long rang pile-driver from Brett Hogan which took everyone by surprise (especially him!). On the half hour Barley were level, when Lewandowski parried but couldn't stop the rebound being put away. Before half time it was 2-1 to the visitors, with the ball striking the post and again The Barley were first onto the rebound.
In the second half The Wilson rallied with Pat Burns coming close before Dixons long range effort took a deflection which beat the Barley keeper to make it 2-2. The Barley responded again, beating the offside trap to go 3-2 up. Then in the space of two minutes The Wilson regained the lead, first Dixon again scoring from outside the box after Hogan' effort was blocked, then sub David Ryan squared for Hogan to score his second. In the last quarter of an hour The Barley laid siege to The Wilson goal but couldn't find a way past Man-of-the-match Lewandowski and his heroic defenders with the final score being Thomas Wilson 4-3 Barley Mow.
