Pieces Of Eight For Rangers

Struggling Wardley visited high-flying Thomas Wilson, but stunned the home side by taking a 3rd minute lead when they beat the offside trap and despite a latch ditch tackle by Ward, the ball was bundled past the unfortunate Lewandowski. On ten minutes the Wilson hit back when Patrick Burns received the ball back from his corner and crossed for Dixon to head in at the back post. On half an hour The Wilson took the lead when Dave Ryan broke through and laid the ball onto Hogan who controlled and fired past the keeper. Before half time The Wilson were reduced to ten men when Scott was sent off for abusive language.

Despite being a man down, The Wilson increased their lead early in the second half when Burns put Hogan through to score with his left foot, taking his tally to six goals in three games. With fifteen minutes remaining a well worked free kick saw the Wilson's lead increase. Minikin played the ball out wide to Burns who crossed for centre half Oz Orrick to score with a spectacular diving header. In the final minute Wardley's defeat was sealed when Burns again crossed for Dixon to scramble the ball home from close range and seal a 5-1 victory.Leam Lane played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Kibblesworth. Goal scorers for Kibblesworth were Andrew Forrest and John Paterson and an outstanding man of the match performance from Peter Mcewen gained his team a valuable point. Grange Villa moved into fourth spot with a 2-0 win away to Steps. Two second half goals from Ben Jefferson and Eugene Morgan sealed the win and they colud have had three had the referee not ruled out a wonderful strike from Andrew Hutchinson. In the First Division Fiddlers Three faced Dunston Social and should have got something out of this end to end game. A first half header from Thirkell for Dunston seperated the two teams at the interval. In the second half Fiddlers through everything at the visitors but could not find a way past there strong defence and Dunston caught Fiddlers on the counter attack with Pegram cooly slotting the ball into the net to wrap up the points.

There was good and bad news for teams competing in the Sunday County Cup. Felling Leam Rangers faced South Shields Prince Edward Pirates and they certainly had the visitors defence all at sea within the first fifteen minutes. First Barry John Boyd hit a wonderful half volley on the turn past the stranded keeper. He then doubled his teams lead with a tight finish. Ian Brown hit his first of the game after great work by Chris Lamb. The Pirates hit back with two goals in a minute and stand in manager David Ball was ready to make his defence walk the plank at the interval. Chris Heron settled his teams nerves with a sublime goal to make it 4-2 at half-time. In the second half Felling upped the tempo and Barry John Boyd completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot. A quick free kick from Chris Liddle put in Brown who hit a wonderful shot over the keeper and into the net for his second. Brown completed his treble minutes later with a clinical finish. Ray Oshin completed the scoring to make the final score Felling Leam Rangers 8 South Shields Prince Edward Pirates 2. Bay Horse and Vigos County Cup dreams are over for another year. Peterlee Oaklands beating Vigo 4-0 whilst Stockton Eaglescliffe Hotel ran out 3-1 winners over Bay Horse.
