Thompson Hits Five As Bay Horse Win At A Canter

Bay Horse have struggled in the first few months of the season to find there feet in the Second Division and they faced a Pelton Fell side who have made a reasonable start to life in a new league. Fell were quick out of the blocks but it was not long before Bay Horse wethered the storm and took the lead through Mark Brewis. Brewis doubled his teams advantage after great work by man of the match Anthony Thompson. David Walker was next on the scoresheet with a wonderful solo effort. Pelton Fell pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time but any hopes of a comeback were short lived early in the second half when Thompson hit a sweet right foot volley past the dive of the despairing keeper. Thompson's next shot was a left footer which curled into the onion bag and he completed a perfect hat-trick moments later with a plum header at the back post. Bay Horse were rampant now and players were queing up to get on the scoresheet. Andrew Fatkin chipped the ball into the net with twenty minutes to go and a minute later MIck England stroked the ball home after great work again by Walker. Thompson completed the rout with two late goals to make it 10-1 to Bay Horse and five goals in the game for a very talented young player. Grange Villa continue to make ground on the leaders cementing there place in the top four with a hard fought 5-3 win over Tyne View. Ben Jefferson was the hero of the day with a fine treble and he was ably supported by James Bishop and Carl Marshall. Pelaw played out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Gloucester whilst Last Orders ran out 4-1 winners at Travellers Rest. Greencroft remain on top of the table with a fine 6-0 win at Shakespeare. Kibblesworth leapfrogged Steps in the table with a 4-2 home win and Wardley Legion recorded there first league win of the season with a 6-4 win over Leam Lane.

In the First Division Felling Leam Rangers took on Barley Mow Social Club at Hilltop. In a tight scrappy affair Felling could not get into first gear and Paul Foster was given the freedom of the pitch by the Felling midfield who were slow and second to everything. It came as no suprise when the experienced Foster found room at the back post to squeeze the ball past furious skipper David Liddle in the Felling goal to give the visitors a deserving lead. Felling pulled level at the start of the second half with Chris Heron hitting an opportunist ball over the top of the flat footed visiting keeper. The game could have gone either way but with twenty five minutes remaing the Barley Mow winger hit a cross come shot past the static Felling rearguard and it trickled into the net to give the visitors all three points. Fiddlers went top of the table with a 4-0 win over Wessington. The Washington outfit are having a horrendous time with injuries and performed well in the first half and held Fiddlers until the second period. Poppleton and Laws hit a brace a piece to seal the win. Dunston Social lost there unbeaten tag when they took on neighbours Holmeside at Dunston Park. Dunston were two goals up and coasting but Ronald Newby's boys are made of sterner stuff these days and they turned the game on its head with a dramatic 4-3 win. Blue Star climbed above Wessington in the table with a 3-0 win over Highwayman whilst Corporation Club recorded there first League win this season defeating Vigo 3-2. Scorers for Vigo were the reliable Ross Preston and Michael Small. Victoria and Stormont Main shared the spoils with an entertaing 2-2 draw.

Cheers
