Switzerland take a two-goal advantage

Phillippe Senderos and Valon Behrami scored to bring a victory to Swiss men against the World Cup 2002 third place team Turkey.

Arsenal defender Senderos did a perfect header in the 41st minute following a Ludovic Magnin free-kick, beating Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Demirel.

Turkey's hard defensive play was punished by the referee Lubos Michel, first Husetin Cimsir was booked in the 23rd minute and Serkan Balci in the 65th minute.

In the second half, Swiss team continued to control the midfield in the absence of Newcastle United star Emre Belozoglu and great play of Grasshopper's midfielder Ricardo Cabanas improved the home side's strength.

In the 61st minute, referee Lubos Michel waved away Hakan Sukur's protest against Phillippe Senderos's handball and whistled a fould against the Turkish player.

Lazio's newcomer Behrami was replaced by Tanquello Barnetta and four minutes after the substitution, he scored following the pass from Alexander Frei having rebounded off Huseyin Cimsir. The score was 2-0 in the 86th minute.

The second leg is going to be held on Wednesday in Istanbul and it will be a tough game for both teams. Emre Belozoglu and Schalke's right winger Hamit Altintop will be able to play to help their team steal the World Cup 2006 ticket from Switzerland.
