Liverpool 3 Wigan 0
About bloody time too - Peter Crouch scores!

It's been a bizarre week for Wigan - their reserves beat Newcastle in the Carling Cup and then their full strength team lose 3-nil against Liverpool. Perhaps this is indicative of the troubles at Newcastle or how well Liverpool are playing at the moment, or both!

Rafael Benitez's belief in Peter Crouch was finally paid off, even though early on in the match 24 hours had passed since Crouch last scored.

After 19 minutes Crouch must have thought that this Scouse duck was broken after the most ridiculous of goals. Crouch's 20 yard shot hit Leighton Baines and looped up into the air before being fumbled into the net by Wigan keeper Mike Pollitt.

On 42 minutes Crouch really did score with a lovely goal where he put the ball over the Pollitt.

After the break Wigan attacked with shots coming from Graham Kavanagh and Jimmy Bullard but it wasn't long before Liverpool sealed their win.

On 70 minutes a header from Fernando Morientes was turned in off the chest of Luis Garcia.

Afterwards Crouch said "To score was great, I'm pleased and I can move on now, hopefully."
